The tour starts at 9.00am with pickup from your hotel or private accommodation in London. Board your private, air-conditioned vehicle which can comfortably seat all travellers. Vehicles utilized for tours are modern 7- to 9-seater MPV's (Mercedes, Ford, Kia, Seat, Hyundai or similar). Your driver/guide tells you all about the history and legends of each site during the 2-hour journey to Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On arrival, you’ll spend approximately 1.5 hours at the site. Take a tour of the entire site of Stonehenge including the visitor center and the stone circle itself. Listen as your guide shares historical accounts and legends of this world famous site. Your guide is happy to take photos of you and your group, so no need for someone to be out of the photos.
Next, take a short 10 minute drive to the lesser-known Woodhenge. This magical place also contains the site of Durrington Walls and will help you understand Stonehenge itself in a whole new way. Spend about 30 minutes at the site.
The final stop is the giant Stone Age of Avebury, located a 1-hour drive away. Spend between 1.5 to 2 hours at this site. You'll be able to walk inside the stone circle itself, you can touch the stones, and you will even be able to walk on top of the henge for a view that will surely take your breath away. This is a big change to Stonehenge where travelers are restricted and provides you with an entirely view of stone circles.
Afterwards, and before making the trip back to London, your driver/guide will make an extra stop at a surprise location. The drive back to London will take around 2 hours, depending on the local traffic, with the tour ending at approximately 6.00pm.
We had a fantastic experience. Our guide was deeply knowledgable about the history of each of the sites and was clear to separate what we known vs. what was theorized about the history and usage of these sites. While Stonehenge gets all of the glamor, missing Avebury circle or woodhenge would be mistakes. Why? Because woodhenge provides context for stonehenge, the two are a pair and Avebury circle isn't overwhelmed with tourists so you can come up close to the stones and get a deeper appreciation for the capabilities of the societies that built these temples.
Great personal tour of these ancient ruins. The guide was very accommodating with great suggestions to make the tour most efficient to get the most out of our time. Very knowledgeable about the history and surrounding areas.
This was a great trip and our driver Neil threw in a bunch of extra detours! I originally booked the trip for 6 people and two dropped out it was a good thing because cramming 6 people into that car would've been miserable. When you have 6 people vehicle needs to be a mini-van!!!!
