This is the perfect day away from London to Canterbury, Dover and Leeds Castle. Your incredible driver-guides will make history come alive through the day whilst on our luxury mini-bus and as you tour Canterbury by foot on an optional complimentary walking tour!
The day begins as you leave London and journey towards Canterbury, home of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Enjoy your guide's storytelling as you make your way to the world-famous cathedral city. The cathedral dates back to 597AD, and you can’t help but be taken back in time in this city steeped in history, with Roman and Norman ruins and streets dotted with pretty timber-framed 16th and 17th-century houses.
The route continues to the closest point to France on mainland Britain, Dover. Here you can walk along the iconic White Cliffs. With spectacular coastal views, this is a must-do to truly experience the incredible English landscape.
The final stop is Leeds Castle and Gardens, where you’ll be able to step straight off the bus and start exploring! A castle has stood on this breathtaking spot, built upon two islands in a lake, since 1119. Your guide will share the castle's incredible history, it has notably been a Norman stronghold, the private property of six of England’s medieval queens and a palace used by Henry VIII. Now it is one of the most visited properties in Britain.
This incredible day tour offers the perfect mix of history and scenery for a day away from London, and you'll arrive back around 6:30pm.
Our driver/guide, Paul was friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable, particularly about Canterbury. We had not heard about Leeds Castle before this trip, so it was a wonderful bonus. The view of the white cliffs of Dover is not extensive from the land you would need to view it from a boat to fully appreciate it. However, it was as good as it could be. Canterbury was all we expected and more! Paul's knowledge and commentary helped a huge amount in our appreciation and enjoyment of the town of Canterbury in the time available. The cathedral is astounding the town is even better!
A great small group tour! The guide was knowledgeable and accommodating. We saw all the high points and were treated well.
This tour was amazing. Our guide, Paul was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with. Canterbury was a fun place to roam around the shops in the little downtown area. The architecture of the buildings was beautiful. The Cliffs of Dover had to be one of the most amazing sites I have ever seen. I could have stayed there all day just absorbing the view. Walking up to Leeds Castle had several picture moments. The grounds were incredible. If I lagged behind, Paul made sure to come back to me and fill me in on any details of the view. My family and I happened to be the only people on the tour on the day we chose, so we got to spend more time at whichever spot we chose. I would do this tour over again if I get the chance to return to England.
Castle was awesome. Lots of time to see everything and experience each destination.
Absolutely loved how personalized this tour was. We were in a small group, so we got individual attention that you simply just can't get in a large tour bus. Would definitely recommend this experience!
I would recommend this tour if you want to get a feel for these three lovely locations in England. I enjoyed learning about them all. However, we did not get to spend much time in any one place. I would have loved to spend more time in Canterbury exploring the town, and hiking along the trails of Dover. Leeds Castle was nice and it has a wonderful history. Our tour guide was fantastic!
We liked our tour guide except when he played awful pop music and enjoyed all the places we saw, especially Canterbury Cathedral, where we really needed a little more time. We appreciated the extra effort the guide made to save us some walking at the end of the Canterbury time by picking us up at a closer point than everyone else walked to. We couldn't really see the white cliffs at Dover because we weren't up for the walk, but I believe the others on the tour got a nice view. We appreciated the guide playing the old song about the white cliffs of Dover. We also liked the extra stop the guide made at the Battle of Britain memorial, which was interesting and touching, with the names of all the lost pilots on a wall, and a large statue of a pilot sitting on the ground, looking out toward the sea. Leeds Castle is very pretty, but anyone who doesn't feel up to walking around it, as my husband didn't, should know that there is no place to sit except outdoors near the gift shop. Fortunately, it didn't rain while we were there.
